Generoso’s Life

Generoso was born in Batac Illocos Norte, Philippines on February 20, 1933.  He was the oldest of three boys and in his 20’s decided to leave his family’s farm and join the Merchant Marines.  After his service with the Merchant Marines, he obtained a position as an Assistant Treasurer for Batac City.  He met and married Ida Laoyan and in 1970, left the Philippines for the United States.  He worked as a farm laborer, saved money and was able to bring his wife and all nine of his children to the U.S.

Generoso eventually left farming labor and began work as a custodian with Sacramento County at what was then called Sacramento Metropolitan Airport.  During that time, in 1978, he became a naturalized citizen with which he was very proud.  He retired from the County in 1996 and filled his days with reading, watching the news, accompanying his wife to Reno bus trips, assisting her with babysitting the grandchildren and vegetable gardening (he had a very green thumb).  He also liked singing and cooking.  His children and grandchildren loved his “eggs, tomatoes, and onions”, and his “roasted eggplants and eggs”.  He is sorely missed and we thank him so very much for all of the sacrifices he has made for us.
